Dr. Lija Thomas is a dedicated board-certified family medicine practitioner known for her commitment to her career. She graduated with honors from the University of North Texas. Her passion for travel and deep appreciation for diverse cultures inspired her decision to pursue a medical education abroad. While studying at the American University of Antigua, College of Medicine, she focused on exploring the root causes of diseases and graduated with honors after earning her MD degree. Dr. Thomas then accepted a residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she further enhanced her medical expertise.
As a native Texan, she always knew she would eventually return to Texas to put down roots. Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has worked across the Midwest, Southern, Eastern, and Western regions of the United States. These experiences have given her valuable insight into the impact that cultural and socioeconomic disparities can have on healthcare. She also recently traveled to New Zealand, where she served as a general practitioner. This experience enabled her to work in a rural setting with a doctor shortage, broadening her knowledge in the field of medicine. In gratitude for the opportunities, she has received, and inspired by hope for the future of medicine, she also mentors medical students.
Dr. Thomas chose MaxHealth as a long-term home because of MaxHealth’s focus on a holistic approach to treating medical conditions which aligns with her style of care. She firmly believes that effective healing requires attention to both the mind and body. Her ability to make quicker diagnoses is enhanced by the connections she draws between the two and by collaborating with other specialists. She often discusses various treatment options to achieve the best possible outcomes for her patients. Dr. Thomas views her patients as partners in their health, working together to achieve sustainable health results.
In addition to treating medical conditions, Dr. Thomas emphasizes the importance of preventative care for each patient. She remains committed to sustainable health solutions throughout their journey. Living a healthy and active lifestyle is not just a principle she advocates but a way of life she embraces. Dr. Thomas not only wants her patients to feel better but believes they deserve to thrive.
In her free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and dogs. She is a proud mother of a Shih Tzu and a Labrador Retriever. Additionally, she enjoys volunteering, staying active, traveling, and hiking.
